Walk and Talk Therapy in Logan Square
Take your session for a walk.
Some conversations are easier when you’re not sitting across from someone.
Walk and talk therapy takes your session outside, so you and your therapist talk while walking side by side through the neighborhood. It’s still therapy, with the same care and the same goals. The setting is just different.
Why people love it
It can take the pressure off. Sitting face to face can feel intense, especially when you’re talking about something hard. Walking side by side means less eye contact and more room to think out loud. A lot of people find the words come more easily.
Movement can help you feel unstuck. Walking at an easy pace gets your body moving, and that can help when your thoughts feel stuck in a loop. Research links regular walking and time outdoors with better mood and lower stress, and many clients notice they leave feeling a bit lighter.
It works with your brain, not against it. If sitting still for 50 minutes feels like a battle, walking can make it easier to stay present. Many of our neurodivergent clients find that moving helps them focus and process.
Nature helps. Fresh air, trees, and a change of scenery can make it easier to slow down and notice what’s going on inside.
What to know before you start
Privacy looks a little different. We’ll choose quieter routes and keep an eye on who’s nearby, but we’re in a public space. You might pass people, or even someone you know. Before your first walk, your therapist will talk through how you’d like to handle that, like pausing the conversation or simply saying hi and moving on.
Chicago weather is Chicago weather. We’ll check the forecast together and switch to an in-office or virtual session if it’s too cold, too hot, or stormy. Dress for the weather and wear shoes you’re comfortable walking in.
It’s not the right fit for everyone or every session. If you’re in crisis, working through something that needs a private room, or just not feeling up to it that day, we’ll meet inside. You can switch back and forth anytime.
Pace and ability matter. This isn’t a workout. We go at your pace, and we can plan routes with benches and shorter loops. If you have a health condition or mobility concern, let your therapist know so we can plan around it.
You’ll sign a consent form first. Your therapist will go over what walk and talk sessions involve, including the limits of confidentiality outdoors, so you can decide if it feels right.
Is walk and talk therapy right for me?
It might be a good fit if you feel restless in traditional sessions, think best when you’re moving, or want to bring a little more ease into therapy. Not sure? Bring it up with your therapist or mention it when you reach out, and we’ll figure it out together.
